With diehard Blink-182 fans counting the days until the Dec. 18 release of their much-anticipated new Dogs Eating Dogs EP, the band has delivered an early holiday present by unveiling the first song from the record, “Boxing Day.”
Backing up earlier claims that the EP would feature a folksier side of the band, the Christmas-themed “Boxing Day” is a break-up song reminiscent of older tunes like “Adam’s Song,” delivering gentle, emotional melodies powered on acoustic guitars and an understated beat from the usually hyper-kinetic drummer Travis Barker.
“Dogs Eating Dogs will be nothing like Neighborhoods, but it’s also not just a return to the band’s early releases,” the band’s singer and guitarist Tom DeLonge explained to Billboard. “The band is back together, working together in a way that they hadn’t been, even for years before the hiatus. We’re connected and laughing and making jokes and making fun of each other, and really having strong debates whether or not we should have a whole chorus about penises,” which should sound promising to longtime fans of the band who miss the schoolyard humor Blink-182 was once famous for perpetuating.
Blink-182 has finally released fourth and final piece of the Dogs Eating Dogs EP. Puzzle pieces were released by band members one at a time with the final piece being released today.

The band is still accepting preorders for the new EP on their official website with various configurations that come with a slew of extras. The “Santa’s Lap” package includes a poster, t-shirt, wrapping paper and a holiday card. The website also promises that “various surprise additions” with be made to the “Santa’s Lap” package at random while supplies last.
